How Long Verification Usually Takes
After you add the CNAME record to your DNS settings, Feedspace checks for the record and verifies your domain ownership. The time it takes for Feedspace to detect your CNAME depends on DNS propagation, which varies based on your domain registrar and the TTL (Time to Live) value set on your DNS record.
- Typical range: 30 minutes to 48 hours
- Most common: Verified within 1 to 2 hours
- Maximum wait: Up to 48 hours in rare cases with high TTL settings or slow registrars
What Happens After Verification
Once Feedspace detects your verified CNAME record, Step 3 (SSL Activation) begins automatically. You do not need to take any action. Feedspace provisions an SSL certificate for your custom domain and activates HTTPS. When SSL is active, your custom domain is live and all your review forms, wall of love pages, and widgets load under your branded URL.
Tips to Speed Up Propagation
Set a Low TTL Before Adding the CNAME
TTL controls how long DNS resolvers cache your record before checking for updates. If you set a low TTL before adding your CNAME, the new record spreads across the internet faster. A TTL between 300 and 3600 seconds (5 minutes to 1 hour) is recommended when making DNS changes. You can raise it again once your domain is verified.
Track Propagation with a DNS Checker Tool
You can monitor how your CNAME record is spreading globally using a free tool like dnschecker.org. Enter your subdomain (for example, reviews.yourcompany.com) and select the CNAME record type. Green checkmarks across most locations means propagation is nearly complete and Feedspace should be able to verify your domain shortly.
Common Questions
Do I need to click Verify again after adding the CNAME?
Yes. Return to the Custom Domain settings in Feedspace and click Verify Domain after adding the CNAME to your DNS. Feedspace then checks for the record. If propagation is not yet complete, wait a while and click Verify again.
Why is my domain still not verified after 48 hours?
If your domain remains unverified after 48 hours, the most common causes are an incorrect CNAME host or target value, or the record was added to the wrong DNS zone. Double-check the host and target values shown in your Feedspace Custom Domain settings against what you entered in your registrar. Use dnschecker.org to confirm the CNAME is resolving correctly.
Does SSL activate automatically or do I need to enable it?
SSL activation is fully automatic. Once Feedspace detects your verified CNAME, it provisions the SSL certificate without any input from you. There is no separate step or button to click for SSL.
