Why Isn’t My Review Text Formatting (Line Breaks, Bold, Highlight) Showing?

Last updated on June 22, 2026

Overview

If a review had extra paragraph breaks, bold words, or highlighted text when it came in, you may notice that styling does not appear the same way once the review is shown on an embedded widget or your Wall of Love. This is expected. The display surface renders review text in its own consistent style so that every review on the same widget or Wall of Love looks uniform, which means some original formatting may not carry through exactly as it was written.

A common case is collecting written testimonials where one reviewer used several blank lines and bold emphasis, and you want that review to read cleanly next to all the others on your Wall of Love. Knowing how the text is rendered helps you decide whether to adjust the wording or the visual styling of the cards.

Why the formatting may not show

Your Feedspace widget and Wall of Love display review text in a single consistent style across every card. This keeps the layout tidy when reviews come from different sources and were written in different ways. Because of that, extra line spacing and certain inline styling from the original submission may be simplified when the review is shown.

If the review text looks shorter than expected or ends with a “Read more” link, that is a separate length setting, not a formatting issue. See why your review text is cut off in your widget to adjust that.

What you can do

Edit the review wording

To change how a review reads, open Feedbox in the left sidebar, find the review, and click Edit from the card menu. The edit sheet has a Review text field where you can adjust the wording and spacing. Click Save Changes when you are done. The edit form handles the review text and reviewer details, so use it to refine what the review says rather than to apply rich styling.

Style the cards with custom CSS

If you want to change the visual look of the review cards, such as the text color, weight, or spacing, you can use the Custom CSS option where your plan allows. This styles the display rather than the individual review content. See how to use custom CSS in Feedspace widgets for the steps.

Match the cards to your brand

If your goal is to make reviews fit your site rather than reproduce a reviewer’s exact formatting, the widget design settings let you set colors and layout. See how to match your widget colors to your website brand.

What’s next

Once the review reads the way you want, preview your widget or Wall of Love to confirm it looks right next to your other reviews. If a specific piece of formatting still does not show the way you expect, email support@feedspace.io with the review and a description of what you are seeing, and the team can take a closer look.

Common questions

Can I add bold or highlighted text to a review myself?

The review edit form has a plain Review text field for the wording. To change the visual styling of how text appears on the cards, use the Custom CSS option on the widget or Wall of Love where your plan allows, since that controls the display style rather than the text of a single review.

Will my paragraph breaks show if I add them in the edit form?

You can adjust the wording and spacing of a review in the Review text field, then check the preview to see how it appears. Because the display renders text in its own consistent style, very large gaps may be tightened so the review sits neatly beside the others on the same widget or Wall of Love.

My text looks shorter than the original. Is that a formatting problem?

No. Shortened text with a “Read more” link is a length setting on the widget, not a formatting issue. Turn off the shorten option to show the full review. See why your review text is cut off in your widget.
