Why Isn’t the Video or Audio Recorder Working on My Feedspace Form?

Last updated on June 22, 2026

Overview

Feedspace forms let reviewers record a video or audio testimonial directly in their browser, with no app to install. The recorder uses the device camera and microphone, so it depends on the reviewer granting permission to the browser.

If a reviewer tells you the recorder will not start, the camera preview stays black, or nothing records when they hit record, the cause is almost always a browser or device permission. The checks below walk through the common fixes so the reviewer can record and submit.

Steps to fix the recorder

Allow camera and microphone when prompted

The first time a reviewer opens the recorder, the browser asks for permission to use the camera and microphone. If they dismissed or blocked that prompt, the recorder cannot access the device. Ask the reviewer to click the camera icon in the browser address bar, set the camera and microphone to Allow, then refresh the form.

Use an up-to-date browser

Browser recording works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Ask the reviewer to update their browser to the latest version, or open the form in a different supported browser if one is misbehaving.

Open the form over HTTPS

Browsers only grant camera and microphone access on secure pages. Your Feedspace form link already loads over HTTPS, so confirm the reviewer is using the link you shared and has not changed the address to an insecure version.

Close other apps using the camera

A camera can only be used by one app at a time. If a video call, another browser tab, or a desktop camera app is already running, the recorder cannot take over the device. Ask the reviewer to close those apps and tabs, then refresh the form.

Grant permission in device settings on mobile

On a phone or tablet, the browser itself needs camera and microphone permission at the device level. Ask the reviewer to open their device settings, find their browser app, and turn on the camera and microphone permissions, then reload the form.

Refresh, or try another browser or device

If the recorder still will not start, a refresh clears most temporary glitches. When the problem stays on one browser or device, ask the reviewer to try a different browser or another device, which quickly shows whether the issue is local to their setup.

Contact support if it persists

If the recorder still does not work after these checks, email support@feedspace.io with the browser, device, and operating system the reviewer is using so the team can help.

Common questions

Does the reviewer need to install any software to record?

No. Recording happens directly in the browser using the device camera and microphone, so there is nothing for the reviewer to download or install.

The reviewer blocked the camera prompt by mistake. How do they fix it?

They can click the camera icon in the browser address bar, change the camera and microphone setting to Allow, then refresh the form. The recorder will prompt again on the next attempt.

Can reviewers record on a phone?

Yes. Recording works on mobile browsers as long as the browser app has camera and microphone permission in the device settings.
